Former Harris County sheriff's deputy Dohnya Dozier was fired earlier this year following an internal investigation into sexual assault allegations. The case began on Nov. 18, 2025, when Avery Daniel called 911 from a Comfort Inn on FM 1960 after her fiancé assaulted her. Dozier responded to the scene and arrested the fiancé before officers transported Daniel to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to personnel records obtained by ABC13, Dozier later visited the hospital where Daniel was receiving care. Daniel told investigators that Dozier grabbed her right breast and squeezed it hard, then ran his hand up her thigh. After her release, Dozier insisted on driving her back to the hotel. He claimed he needed to walk her upstairs to ensure her safety.
Daniel reported that upon returning to the room, Dozier pushed her inside, removed his clothes, pleasured himself, and raped her. The personnel file states that Dozier returned to the motel the next day, on Nov. 19, 2025. Investigators found he attempted to prevent Daniel from reporting the incident.
Despite his efforts, Daniel filed a report. The sheriff's office removed Dozier from regular patrol and assigned him to fleet services. While in that role, Dozier became upset after another deputy read an article about a misconduct investigation. The following day in mid-December, he returned to the hotel to retrieve security video but was unsuccessful in his attempt.
The internal investigation concluded that the allegations played a major role in his dismissal from the sheriff's office. Weeks after his termination, Dozier was arrested in a separate criminal case. He faced charges for attempted sexual assault and official oppression in that distinct matter.
Dozier has not been charged with a crime related to the specific sexual assault detailed in the personnel files regarding Daniel. The Harris County Sheriff's Office and the FBI are currently investigating both cases. Both agencies are looking for additional victims in the ongoing inquiries.
