Six people were killed and dozens more were injured during a series of mass shootings that hit nightlife districts across the United States over the Halloween weekend, officials said. The violence peaked in Dallas, where four people died and 15 were wounded in the Deep Ellum neighborhood, a popular area for music and dining.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said investigators were working to determine if three separate shootings, which occurred over roughly 75 minutes on Saturday night, were connected. He noted that some arrests had been made but did not specify the number of suspects or the charges involved. Comeaux described the area as a large, spread out scene, noting that police had increased their presence in the district before the gunfire started. No officers were injured.

In Birmingham, Alabama, the violence struck near Legion Field after the annual Magic City Classic football game. Mayor Randall Woodfin announced Sunday that one person was killed and eight others were wounded in two separate shootings. Nearly 70,000 fans attended the game, which Alabama A&M won 31-28 against Alabama State, a rivalry dating back over a century. Two of the wounded were listed in critical condition as of Sunday.

Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said most spectators had left the stadium property when the first shooting occurred near vendor booths on Graymont Avenue. The circumstances of the attacks remained unclear, as did the exact location of the fatality. Police spokesperson De’Rell Freeman said one person had been detained and that multiple weapons were recovered.

Shootings also occurred in college towns in Arkansas, Delaware, and Illinois. In Fayetteville, six people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds following an altercation near the University of Arkansas on Sunday morning. In Newark, Delaware, six people were shot near the University of Delaware campus late Saturday. Lt. Greg D’Elia said all six were transported to hospitals, while video shared online showed people running for cover. In Bloomington, Illinois, a 19-year-old woman died and another was critically injured in a shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University early Sunday.

Two additional deaths occurred on Friday at Spirit Halloween stores in California and Michigan. In Fairfield, California, a 31-year-old pregnant woman was killed in what police described as a targeted attack. Six others were wounded in that incident. In Madison Heights, Michigan, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot. A second man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being assaulted by bystanders during his arrest.

The shootings in Dallas and Birmingham left communities reeling as police continued to gather evidence. In Dallas, the department said it was still investigating the links between the three incidents. In Birmingham, the investigation focused on the timing of the shots near the stadium exit. In the other affected cities, police released statements confirming hospital transports and ongoing inquiries, with no arrests made in Fayetteville or Newark at the time of reporting.
