Arch Manning kept Texas moving after a cut on his right hand, and the Longhorns' quarterback returned to the field without missing a snap during Saturday's home game against Mississippi State. Gianni Spetic's 45-yard field goal later in the second quarter put Texas ahead 10-0 and finished a 13-play drive that included the moment Manning was tended to on the sideline.
Manning appeared bloodied at the end of a 10-yard scramble. Mississippi State's Bralan Womack was flagged for a personal foul on that play, and a referee sent Manning to the sidelines, where a trainer quickly treated the cut. Once the hand was taped, Manning completed two passes and added a 6-yard run for a first down.
The same scoring series also included a play where Mississippi State edge rusher Amaree Williams hit Manning hard enough to knock off his helmet. Rules required Manning to sit out one play, and backup quarterback KJ Lacey handed off to Raleek Brown on that snap.
Manning closed the first half with 24 rushing yards, a team high, and 89 passing yards with a touchdown on seven of 10 attempts. Texas carried a 17-0 lead into halftime.
