Georgia Southern defeated Appalachian State 19-3 on Saturday night in Statesboro, Georgia.

Taeo Todd rushed for a touchdown and Tripp Bryant converted four field goals for the Eagles. Chance Gamble intercepted a pass in the end zone with 3:02 remaining to end the game. The win moved Georgia Southern to the top of the East Division in the Sun Belt Conference. The Eagles have won all five of their games played on Halloween.

Max Johnson passed for 318 yards on 36 of 47 attempts for Georgia Southern, which improved to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Alex Taylor caught 10 passes for 93 yards. Bryant opened the scoring with a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter. Todd finished a 12-play, 81-yard drive with a 5-yard run that gave the Eagles a 10-point lead with 7:04 left in the first half.

Appalachian State, which fell to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference, managed only 222 total yards. The Mountaineers rushed for just six yards and converted on two of nine third-down attempts. James London missed a 35-yard field goal attempt with about five minutes left in the second quarter. He then kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired to make the halftime score 10-3. Bryant added kicks of 35, 34, and 48 yards in the second half.

Center Jayden Thomas suffered a hard hit to the head from defensive lineman Eli Anders just before halftime. Thomas lay motionless on the field for several minutes before being carried off on a cart. He did not return to the game. Appalachian State also played without left tackle Devon Manuel, who sustained a season-ending injury in a 34-31 overtime victory over James Madison on October 22.

The Eagles have won four consecutive matchups against Appalachian State. The Mountaineers still lead the all-time series 21-20-1. Georgia Southern will host Marshall next Saturday. Appalachian State will host Georgia State the same week.

The game took place at Georgia Southern's home field in Statesboro.
